What is Vehicle Type Approval (VTA)?
In the conditions of the modern automobile market, where safety and environmental responsibility are key priorities, vehicle certification plays a vital role. Within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), there is a comprehensive system of technical regulation aimed at ensuring compliance of manufactured and imported automobile equipment with established standards. The central element of this system is the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA).
Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) is a mandatory document confirming the compliance of vehicles with safety standards. It is necessary for their legal release into circulation on the territory of the Customs Union member states. The VTA is issued in accordance with TR CU 018/2011 and comes into force after registration in the Unified Register of the Customs Union. The VTA can be issued for a batch of vehicles (up to 100 units) or for serial production.
The validity period of the VTA for serial production is up to 3 years, and for a batch - indefinitely.
Who needs Vehicle Type Approval?
-
Vehicle manufacturersIf the vehicles are manufactured in the territory of the Customs Union.
-
Official representatives of the manufacturerFor foreign manufacturers, this must be a legal entity registered in one of the countries of the Customs Union.
Registration of the VTA: how not to fall into the trap of "gray" schemes
-
Modern problem
Some laboratories use "gray" schemes, promising to issue the VTA at reduced prices and terms without conducting the necessary tests. Such offers indicate illegal activity and carry serious risks. In the case of the first inspection, the accreditation of these laboratories is canceled, and the certificates issued by them become invalid. As a result, the client not only loses time and money spent on registration, but is also forced to go through the procedure of document registration again.
Solution
- Compare the cost of services and terms of work. Give preference to the company that offers the best value for money.
- Check how long the company has been present on the market. Some companies may claim that they have been “working for over 15 years,” while the legal entity was registered only recently.
- Pay attention to the reputation and customer reviews of the accredited laboratory where you plan to obtain a permit.

Tests conducted to obtain Vehicle Type Approval
-
Frontal and side crash tests
The tests simulate vehicle collisions with obstacles, assessing the level of passenger protection and the integrity of the structure during frontal and side impacts. -
Cabin strength assessment
The tests determine the ability of the vehicle cabin to maintain its structure and protect passengers in the event of an accident, ensuring their safety. -
Controllability and stability testing
Tests aimed at assessing the ability of the vehicle to maintain control and stability in various road conditions, which is important for preventing accidents. -
Vehicle noise assessment
Measuring the noise level produced by the vehicle, both inside and outside, to ensure passenger comfort and compliance with environmental standards. -
Climate studies
Tests help evaluate the impact of various climatic conditions on the performance of vehicles. Tests help evaluate how extreme temperatures affect the reliability, safety and comfort of vehicles, ensuring their adaptation to different climatic zones. -
Determining the lateral stability and strength of large-sized vehicle bodies
Evaluating the ability of large-sized vehicles to withstand lateral forces and maintain integrity, which is important for road safety. -
Testing anti-lock braking systems of passenger cars and trucks
Checking the efficiency of anti-lock braking systems that prevent wheel locking during braking, ensuring control over the vehicle and reducing the braking distance. -
Testing parking brake systems
Assessing the reliability and efficiency of parking brakes that ensure the immobility of the vehicle when parking onslopes.
